Dew Tell: Why is Your Blog So Silent These Days?

Blame it on Dewberries. Wild, wonderful, sweet, juicy dewberries. Nearly 5 gallon picked so far and more to ripen. We found a hidden patch just this morning. Hallelujah!! A spiritual experience indeed. Knee deep in poison ivy, chiggers hiding everywhere, thorns poised for attack. No matter. All winter long and into next year, family and friends will savor dewberries and be reminded of this summer of bounty.

John Seed and Joanna Macy wrote “What are you? What am I? Intersecting cycles of water, earth, air and fire, that’s what I am, that’s what you are.”

Yes, but I think I am also a dewberry!

See my farm blog for more excuses as to why this blog is more quiet than usual.

  • Are dewberries the same as Black raspberries? They look heavenly- ship some out ma’am! On the other blog you look incredibly busy, and productive!

  • Dear Starrlife
Dewberries ARE heavenly. Dewberries are the “choicest” of blackberries. Delicious to eat raw – no extras necessary. They are rare, hard to find -their vines run along the ground. AND, they are ripe two weeks before ‘regular’ blackberries. If I could send you some I would!! Otherwise you have to visit in early to mid July.

I want to pass along a great book with a Dewberry -Vermont – midwest connection. It’s “The Wild Flavor” by Marilyn Kluger, originally published in 1973. Fabulous stories and recipes for things like Paw Paw Cake (do you have paw paws in Vermont?), Persimmon Cake & and Black Walnut Pie. Chapters run through the seasons starting with ‘Sugaring Off’ and ending with ‘Irish Moss” & “Cattails”.
